Some of my history of plague books, background for my forthcoming book on Texas epidemics @mitpress. Glad to tell the story of how plague rose out of the Central Asian steppes (a bit west of present day Irkutsk) and then to Crimea and the Black Sea where the Mongol-Genoese clashes ultimately introduced plague into Messina, Marseille, and Constantinople to ignite the Black Death in Europe 1346-53
