My books on what Harry Huntt Ransom called the Texas “Counter Frontier” or other frontier. Yes we had our rough and tumble beginning but we were also scholars and naturalists seeking a new start, leading to our Philosophical Society of Texas in 1837. Their writings, observations, and commitment to literature, science, scholarship under great duress are truly extraordinary. Maybe a subject for some future book
